Biography:
Camellia Peebles is a writer, poet, and cultural critic at the TV and Film Obsessive networks, based in Seoul. Her fiction appears in Maudlin House, ExPat Press, Mythic Picnic, BULL, and Plague Circus Press, with work forthcoming in F(r)iction.
Cultural Criticism:
I write about film and television, from horror and fantasy to the dramas that cut a little too close. I'm interested in performance, power, mythology, and what a story reveals about the culture that produced it. I pay attention to the details, question the choices, and don't confuse a famous cast with a good script. If something works, I'll say so. If it doesn't, I'll say that too.
Poetry:
My poetry lives somewhere between a confession, a curse, and a joke told at the worst possible moment. I write about longing, class, desire, mythology, and the strange ways people try to possess what they love. My poems are often surreal, sometimes grotesque, and rarely interested in behaving themselves. I like beautiful things with something ugly underneath, humor that catches you off guard, and endings that leave a little blood on the page.
Beauty Is My Thesis.
I believe beauty exists in places we're taught not to look. In the grotesque, the broken, the excessive, and the things that make us uncomfortable. I'm drawn to contradictions: tenderness in cruelty, elegance in decay, humor in despair. I don't believe art has to be pleasant to be beautiful, or that beauty has to be innocent. Sometimes the ugliest things tell the most beautiful truths. That's what I look for in everything I write and create.
Lunaria:
I sometimes create under the name Lunaria, or sometimes LunariaCamellia. Lunaria is my artistic persona. While Camellia Peebles is the name behind my writing and criticism, Lunaria is where my poetry, visual art, mythology, and fascination with beauty come together. It's not a separate identity, but another expression of the same imagination—a little more mystical, a little less interested in following the rules.
